Our Engagement Story

Four years ago today, I proposed to my wife Luisa. I guess you could say this is our first REAL proposal anniversary since February 29th only comes around every 4 years. Trust me, I didn’t plan it out that way. It just sorta happened. Luisa and I, like many couples, had talked much about marriage…

Our Trip to the Grand Canyon and Back

Some of you may know that my wife Luisa ran a marathon a few weeks ago.  When she decided to run it at the Grand Canyon, I decided that we were going to make a wonderful, long and adventurous trip out of it.  We drove (from Boise, ID) the entire way and had the time…

Sachin Khona - Oh man, these are amazing. Is there anything you can’t shoot well?

Beautiful Nate!

Really love the one with the flare sunlight and the one of you framed as a shadow.. epicness!

So good!

Congrats to Luisa again on her run! Incredible!

Laura Radniecki - Good grief, Nate. These are unbelievable! I’ve been to most of those places and I dare to say, I think you’ve made them more beautiful than they are in person. Or at least close. The Antelope canyon photos look like Peter Lik’s.

Did you carry a tripod with you on your hikes? Lenses you used for most of these?

You sure are a landscape photographer!

Lynn Demaray - WOW, gorgeous!!! These are amazing!! Love every single one of them. Your view on everything was just great and your images are great!! Love every one of them, how cool to be able to have them to hang in your home!

Nate Perkes - Thanks so much everyone! I appreciate it a ton. And Laura, I do usually carry a tripod with me. It’s a smaller one so it doesn’t weigh me down. Almost all these were taken on a tripod at about f/16-f/22 usually at a pretty slow shutter speed. I think almost every shot in here was taken with the Nikon 17-35 2.8 which is a great lens past f/5.6. Most of the Antelope Canyon pictures were 10-20 second exposures.

My New Self Portrait Challenge | 1/52

Let’s see.  How to put this… Oh yeah… I’m AWFUL at having my picture taken.  I’m ok if I’m with someone else, like my wife, or Jace, or a large group.  In fact, I love having our family pictures taken.  We do it all the time.  But when I’m on my own, I don’t know…

Theresa - Nate, I enjoyed seeing the references to your old blog. Although the pictures were still great, you have come a long ways in 2.5 years and it gives ME a lot of hope! :)

Chelsea Lewis - Um…so I think I might just copy this wording to my own blog, because you totally described me in front of the camera to a T! =) (totally kidding about copying it btw…=) I love this idea. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while! I didn’t want to do 52 weeks though, I was going to do one a month. I’ll have to check out your FB page for the setups. Those would be fun to see! =)

Happy Birthday Luisa!!

Yesterday was a WONDERFUL day.  As you can see, I let Luisa take the day off from her usual Life Thru the Macro posts for good reason.  It was her birthday!  Luisa might be the funnest person to shop for in the world.  She gets incredibly excited over even the smallest things, and to say…

My Own Family Photo Shoot | Boise Family Photographer

Luisa and I have been meaning to take a few pictures of our little family lately.  We seriously had SO much fun!  We had a few locations here in Star that we wanted to try.  Unfortunately the first two home owners weren’t home to ask if we could shoot on their property.  And according to…
